What could the 'queen city of the south' offer to local and foreign tourists starting to flock all over the city? As a city with full of historical sites to fascinate travelers and a paradise getaway with magnificent man-made structures, its thriving tourism industry continues to grow. Checkout what we have tasted, experienced and conquered in our two weeks workation. Hope this list helps you on planning your next Cebu trip. Keep on checking that cebu bucketlist and never stop exploring!
Try the local delicaciesAnd of course top of the list is Cebu's Lechon which was declared as the best lechon in the world. We tried Rico's Lechon on our first day and unfortunately the spicy one is no longer available so we have to come back because it boasts its original spicy lechon and I'll say that it is a must try. The pork skin was not crunchy but very tasty, the meat was perfectly cooked and a little bit of the spicy flavor increases your appetite. You'll get seconds on that plate. Also one of the best pasalubong produce in Cebu is the chicharon from Carcar city. You have to try it yourself to know why and take a spicy one too. Other suggested delectable foods are the corn coffee, dried mangoes, danggit and Chorizo de Cebu.
Go on a motorcycle (habal-habal) tourIt's no secret that Cebu city is experiencing heavy traffics around the metro because of its rapid economic development and population. With this, as an alternative you can opt to ride a motorcycle. They're easy to find when you wait just beside the streets. Habal-habal drivers usually drives slower when passing by people to offer rides. It's faster to take this rather than a taxi because they can pass through the traffic with ease. Be more adventurous and try habal-habal for your Cebu tour on the highlands. We had our first tour experience via habal-habal and the highlights are the Sirao Garden, Temple of Leah and Tops Lookout.
Hike the highest peak in CebuA short 30 min hike to the top will leave you in awe with most of top destinations can be seen from above. And the highlight of the hike is to see the chocolate hill like limestone cliffs with sharp peak instead of round ones. Though the weather didn't allow us to have a glimpse of the view, the experience was worth the try so we will definitely go back to see these again.
Swim with the whale sharksWith Cebu's diverse marine life, one of the top tourist attraction in Southeast of Cebu is an encounter with these slow-swimming gentle giants that can reach incredible lengths of up to 40 feet. Swimming with the whale sharks is a remarkable experience you'd treasure and you get to help the locals too.
Visit the ruin, church and museumExplore more of the history of the south and take an hour land trip from Whale watching sites to see Oslob's ruins, museum and the centuries' old church (Our Lady Immaculate Conception Church). Also don't miss out to buy the native delicacies on the way to Carcar city. The sweetened rice crispies (Ampao) and the best spicy chicharon. Thank you @Cebu Joiner Tour for arranging our whale shark encounter, Osmena peak and sidetrips.
Island hopping in Pescador islandOne of Cebu tour we are looking forward to while planning our trip and really excited about is the Island hopping at Pescador Island of Moalboal. Boasting its breathtaking coasts and marine life, we can't agree more. We were amazed by the colorful coral reefs and fishes just around us during our snorkeling activity. The Sardines run left us speechless of how wonderful the experience was. And last but not the least is the Turtle watching which we got so lucky to swim with one. We didn't mind the time and enjoyed every second watching and swimming with the turtle.
Experience canyoneeringFor the adrenaline-junkies this is one of the best adventure Cebu can offer. A 3 hour adventure that requires physical strength and mostly courage to finish. We experienced trekking, swimming and jumping along the way. Also had a few stops to take a picture of different rock formations. And the majestic Kawasan falls is waiting for you at the end of the tour. It is worth a try and you'll never regret it so we highly recommend this. Thank you @Cebu Joiner Tour for arranging our Pescador Island Tour and Canyoneering.
Explore the city and the historyA day tour to go around the city to explore historical sites and know more about its story is a must do in Cebu. We visited the Taoist temple where its architecture and colors pop in every snaps you take. We then proceeded to Magellan's cross to see the replica of the one planted by Magellan during his arrival to mark the spot where the first Christian Filipinos were baptized and take a moment to pray at Basilica Minore del Santo Nino de Cebu which was built in 1565. And just a few minutes away is the Fort San Pedro, the smallest and oldest triangular bastion in the country, you can read the history displayed in the museum and checkout the artifacts and galleries.
For lunch, try the SUTUKIL at mactan shrine. After the sumptuous lunch, you can stroll around the Mactan Shrine. See the Battle of Mactan location where Lapu-Lapu's monument is also located as an honor of being the first Filipino hero. Next stop was the guitar factory where you can observe an actual making of a guitar. We weren't able to visit the Tabo-an Market and scheduled it on another day but in exchange we visited the newest attraction, the 10,000 roses Cafe. We came a little early and got to enjoy a coffee while the sun is setting with a view of city lights at the horizon of the sea. The cafe is also near the Lantaw Native floating restaurant, a must try for a different dining experience of local cuisines.

Go to places where the locals areIt's fun to go to malls too and observe how it goes around the busy city. Don't miss out to take a picture at the famous landmark in Cebu, the Cube at SM seaside.
Take an adventure on the highest building in the cityCrown Regency Hotel as the highest building in the city offers 3 adventures (Skywalk, Edge Cruiser and Zip line) and we can say that it sure was a heart-pounding experiences. Also don't miss out their dinner buffet as you'll have the best view in the city while dining from the 37th floor.
Take a day tour to BoholIf you have a day to spare, go to bohol and take a day tour. Just a quick ferry trip from Cebu we were able to visit most of the top tourist destinations in just 8 hours and go back to Cebu. We got a chance to have a close encounter with one of the smallest primates, the tarsier. A guide is highly recommended as they are really difficult to spot in their sanctuary. You should try a unique lunch experience while cruising the Loboc River with live band. Also take a side trip to hold and have a picture with the huge albino python. Later that afternoon it was raining and the chocolate hills view point was very foggy so we didn't saw this site. Luckily though, we were able to see some of the chocolate hills at Sagbayan Peak which during this season is still green. And on top of our list to visit here in Bohol is the man-made forest, which left us in awe of how calming and peaceful it is just by passing the road surrounded by the trees.
Overall, It was a workation well spent. A mixed activity of heart-pounding and lay back experiences throughout the two weeks stay to balance work and vacation. There are indeed a lot that Cebu can offer to tourist and travelers alike that can make you come back again. Exploring the city, experiencing the hospitality of the people and tasting local foods made it more interesting and exciting.
